Yvonne Audette, 1930-., Australia.

Born in Sydney of American parents Yvonne Audette studied first in Sydney 1948-51; then for three years at the National Academy of Design in New York just as Abstract Expressionism was reaching its peak. She met for example de Kooning, Franz Kline and Clement Greenberg. After extensive travels in Europe she settled in Italy in 1956. Cantata No. 16 was painted in Florence in 1958 the year of her first solo exhibitions in Florence and Milan (the latter a sell-out). Audette returned to Sydney in 1966 moved to Melbourne three years later and has come to be recognised as one of Australia*s most important abstract artists.
