George James Coates, 1869-1930, Australia.

Born in Melbourne. Studied at the National Gallery School. Awarded the Travelling Scholarship in 1896. Studied at Juliens in Paris and exhibited at the Old and New Salon and at the Royal Academy. Coates were awarded Honourable Mention at the Old Salon in 1911 and the same honour at the Carnegie Institute. Coates is represented in all Commonwealth Galleries, the British Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum. etc
