Eveline Syme was born in Surrey Englland in 1888. After leaving school in Melbourne, she travelled to England and gained her MA from Cambridge University in 1914 and continued her studies in art in Melbourne, London and Paris, and travelled and worked through Europe in the early 1920s. She returned to Melbourne in 1929 and was activly involved in the art scene. Known as a painter and printmaker, she was a member of a number of art associations and foundation member of the Contemporary Group in 1932 and regularly exhibited with the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors and the Independent Group of Artists.
