Born in Queenstown, New Zealand in 1885, Mina Arndt studied at Wellington Technical College before travelling to England and Europe for further studies. In Berlin she met German engraver Hermann Struck who taught her etching and later became a pupil of Lovis Corinth of the German Modern Movement. She was interned in Germany as an enemy alien in 1914, but returned to New Zealand in 1915. Arndt exhibited with the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, the Paris Salon and the Centennial Exhibition.

The earliest auction listing we have for Hermina Arndt is in 1994 and in total 81 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 56 (69%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $24,253 for Mother & Child sold by International Art Centre in August 2016. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Hermina Arndt are held by the Museum Of New Zealand, Auckland Art Gallery and a further three major public national galleries (see list below).
