James Ranalph Jackson, painter and teacher, was born in Palmerston, New Zealand, 3 July, 1882 and arrived in Australia in 1894. He studied in Sydney at the Royal Art Society School and in Melbourne at the National Gallery of Victoria School. Travelling overseas, he undertook further study at Académie Colarossi in Paris, and in London under Frank Brangwyn. He was a Foundation member of Australian Academy of Art and one of the first Fellows of Royal Art Society of N.S.W., and a teacher at the Royal Art Society School in Sydney.

James Jackson is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1966 of 1,635, of which 1,104 (68%) were sold.
