Marine painter John Charles Allcot, was born in Derbyshire, U.K., in 1888 and studied at the Liverpool School of Arts. He arrived in Sydney in 1912. He was commissioned to paint H.M.S. Endeavour Entering Botany Bay, April 29, 1770, and similar historical subjects, and became well known for his impressionistic watercolours of sailing ships and liners, often viewed entering Sydney Harbour.

John Allcot is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1969 of 1,416, of which 997 (70%) were sold.
