Born in East Africa in 1938, George Haynes was sent to school in England. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art in London from 1958 and arrived in Australia in 1962, holding a solo exhibition in Perth in the same year. In 1963 he won the “Perth Prize” awarded by the Art Gallery of Western Australia and exhibited in “Paintings From the West: 14 West Australian Painters” at the Museum of Modern Art and Design in Melbourne. He exhibited annually in Perth from 1963 to 1975 taught at secondary and tertiaty level in Perth from 1964 to 1985.
