Ngoia Pollard Napaljarri was an Indigenous Australian artist from the Warlpiri language group, which is located in the remote central desert region of Australia. She was born in the early 1950s in a camp close to the remote community of Yuendumu. Napaljarri began painting in the 1980s, and quickly gained recognition for her distinctive and expressive style. Her work is characterized by bold, vibrant colors, and intricate designs that reflect the landscape and stories of the Warlpiri people. Throughout her career, Napaljarri's art was exhibited widely both in Australia and internationally. Her work has been featured in several major exhibitions, including the National Gallery of Victoria and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. One of Napaljarri's most famous works is a painting titled "Water Dreaming at Kalipinypa". The painting depicts the site of Kalipinypa, a sacred site in Warlpiri country, and is considered one of her most significant contributions to the art world. In addition to her artistic career, Napaljarri was also a respected cultural leader within her community. She worked as a translator and cultural advisor for several organizations, including the Warlpiri Youth Development Aboriginal Corporation and the Warlpiri Media Association. Napaljarri passed away in 2019.
