Born in New South Wales in 1957, Wendy Stokes gained a Graduate Diploma from the Sydney College of the Arts and a MFA from University New South Wales, College of Art & Design (COFA). She is an active member of the Sydney Printmakers group and has been a finalist in major prize exhibitions including the Dobell Drawing Prize, the Glover Prize, The Fleurieu Landscape Prize, the JADA and the Alice Prize. Wendy Stokes has developed a strong practice across printmaking, painting and drawing having held over 30 solo exhibitions in prominent commercial metropolitan and regional galleries, and also in China, Korea, Canada, Chile, New Zealand and Norway. She was awarded a guest artist in residence in The Hamptons, New York in 1992 and a three month residency at the UNSW Research Studio, Cite International des Arts, Paris in 2014.
