Born in Adelaide in 1875, Herbert Babbage moved to New Zealand as a child. He studied at Wanganui Technical College and under the artist D E Hutton and in London and Paris from 1904, returning to New Zealand about 1909 where he exhibited in Wellington, Wanganui and New Plymouth.
The earliest auction listing we have for Herbert Babbage is in 1990 and in total 43 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 37 (86%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $3,674 for Mending the Nets sold by International Art Centre in August 2017.
