Born in England in 1933, after studying at the Gravesend School of Art, Sibley arrived in Australia in 1947. He studied at the East Sydney Technical College and in England. After a period in Europe and Papua New Guinea, he settled in Brisbane, Queensland where he held the first of many exhibitions in 1960. He won theTransfield Art Prize in 1962, at the time the country's richest art award, and was a two-time finalist in the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize. He taught at the Mary White School of Painting in 1964/65 and at both RMIT and Monash University. He held 27 solo shows and was also commissioned to design stained glass windows. Sibley's works are represented in all state and some provincial collections.
