Born in Donald, Victoria in 1958 Philip Hunter studied at Prahran College, Victorian College of the Arts and from 1996 to 1999 at Deakin University where he earned a Doctor of Philosophy. Known for his vast Australian landscapes mainly executed in oil, he exhibited in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in both solo and group shows. He is represented in numerous public collections. He died from cancer aged 58.
