Christopher Aubrey is known to have painted in the Otago and Southland areas of New Zealand in the 1870s, to have exhibited watercolours of Riverton and Stewart Island in 1879, and to have worked in Wellington in the 1890s and Auckland in 1898. His work is often characterised by the inclusion of skinny, lively looking horses. His work is often confused with Arthur Charles (A. C.) Aubrey who was active in the same areas of New Zealand at around the same time.
