Born in Sydney in 1879, Auld studied under J. S. Watkins and Julian Ashton. As a black- and-white artist, he contributed to the 'Sydney Mail' and 'The Bulletin' and in 1909, to the 'London Opinion'. He exhibited frequently with the Society of Artists and painted several portraits. In 1935 he was awarded the Wynne Prize.
