Geoffrey Bartlett was born in Melbourne and he studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1985 after being awarded the Harkness Fellowship he completed a Master of Fine Arts (Hons) at Columbia University. His sculpture is widely represented in public and private collections.
