Born in 1930, Don Driver was born in Hastings, Hawke's Bay in the north island of New Zealand, and studied at the New Plymouth Technical College. A largely self-taught contemporary artist, he is a painter and printmaker, and is also known for his collages and assemblages of unusual materials such as discarded junk and trivia. A retrospective of his work was held at the New gallery in Auckland in 2000.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $47,251 for La Guardia No. 2 1966 sold by Webb's in July 2021. This year 9 works have been offered for sale.
