Elizabeth Gould was born in England in 1804 and married the ornithologist John Gould in 1824. The Goulds came to Australia in 1838 where Elizabeth made some 600 drawings to be published in her husband's books, many of which were believed to have been wrongly attributed to her husband. She returned to England in 1840.
