Printmaker and painter, Basil Hadley was born in London in 1940. He studied at the Ealing College of Art, and after travelling extensively throughout Europe and Australia, settled in Sydney in 1965, but later moved to Adelaide. He held solo exhibitions in London and has exhibited in most Australian states. He won a number of prizes between 1973 and 1989.

The highest price recorded for the artist is $29,580 for Fantastic Red Bird Quietly Watching sold by Elder Fine Art in June 2021.
