Born in Victoria in 1943, Robert Jacks studied sculpture at Prahran Technical College and painting at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. An abstract painter, his first exhibition was in Melbourne in 1966 followed by over 60 solo exhibitions in the course of his career. He spent 10 years in Canada and the USA from about 1968. In 2006, he was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).
