Born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1956, John Reynolds graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts in 1980, one of his mentors being Colin McCahon. He is best known as a painter, but he has had several photographs published in magazines. Reynolds' interest in architecture is also reflected in his paintings. Reynolds received a Laureate Award from the Arts Foundation of New Zealand and is a member of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery Foundation. He has also been a finalist in New Zealand's Walters Prize Award and exhibition at the Auckland Art Gallery in 2002 and 2008.
