About Henri Bastin
Henri Bastin was born in Belgium and arrived in Australia in 1921. Bastin began painting while working on a Queensland sheep-grazing property. His naive paintings in the manner of Rousseau were shown at the Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne, in 1958. These exhibitions established Bastin as a pioneer of naive art in Australia.
Henri Bastin is one of the most prolific of the artists listed in our database, with the number of works offered for sale by auction since 1969 of 485, of which 343 (71%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $49,200 for Waterfall sold by Sotheby's in April 2008. This year 2 works have been offered for sale.
