Born in Sydney in 1937, Robert Owen studied widely in Sydney, Europe, the UK, USA and Japan. A painter and sculptor with a special interest in computer graphics and construction art, he has held solo exhibitions of his work since 1971. Owen has lectured in sculpture, drawing and painting in tertiary colleges.
We have records of art auction sales by Robert Owen from 1992 and in total 87 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 63 (72%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $67,500 for Blind Spot (from The Text of Light series) 2003 sold by Menzies in November 2023. This year one work has been offered for sale. Works by Robert Owen are held by the National Gallery of Australia, Monash University Museum of Art and a further ten major public national galleries (see list below).
