Born in Victoria, Mary McLeish studied in Melbourne and Paris. An expressionist painter, she exhibited in Melbourne from 1951. McLeish was commissioned to paint a portrait of the touring Russian ballerina, Maya Plisetskaya for the Edgeley organisation.
