Lezlie Tilley was born in 1949 in Sydney, New South Wales. In 1967 she attended the National Art School at the East Sydney Technical College followed by studying Ceramics at Newcastle School of Art & Design from 1973 to 1975 and a Certificate of Art at the same institution from 1979 to 1980. In 1983 she was awarded a bachelor of Art (Visual Art) at Newcastle College of Adult Education. She has lectured in arts and media in the 1980s at the Hunter Institute of Technology and in Fine Art at Newcastle University. Working in a variety of media including oil and acrylic, brass and recycled timber she has shown in solo and group shows in Sydney, Newcastle and Melbourne since 1988. Included amongst her many art prizes and awards are the Von Bertouch Gallery Prize in 1980, the Signor A Dattilo Rubbo Prize, University of Newcastle in 1984, and Maitland Art Prize in 1998 and 2002.
