Frederick Burmeister was born in Norwood, South Australia in 1858. He commenced business as an engraver about 1879 in Adelaide, later adding printing to his business. A watercolourist who painted landscapes and scenes of Aboriginal life, he was an exhibited artist. He had been involved with with the 'first coloured moving picture in the world' that toured South Australian towns in 1895.
