Born in Prague in 1947 Tom Fantl arrived in Melbourne aged 2 in 1949. He studied at Prahran College of Adult Education, Caulfield Institute of technology and Melbourne State College from 1967 to 1970. A teacher, painter and sculptor, he has exhibited in solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Belgium and London from 1972 and group exhibitions since 1971. From 1970 to 1990 he taught at secondary and tertiary level at various institutions in Melbourne, and in 1991 he established his own art school.
