James Foy, 1844 - 1890 and Joseph Foy 1847 -1923. The Foy brothers established a studio in Thames, 110+km south of Auckland, in 1872. Following the death of James Foy in 1890, his brother Joseph continued trading in Thames until 1909, when he moved to Auckland, opening a studio in Eden Terrace. Foy Bros. portrait photographs of Ana Rupene, Pare Watene, Hori Ngakapa and Tamati Waka Te Puhi formed the basis for portraits painted by Gottfried Lindauer.
