About Glory Ngarla
Australian Aboriginal artist Glory Ngarla (also known as Glory Ngale) was born in 1948 at Boundary Bore an area in Utopia, 240 km north east of Alice Springs. She was involved in the Batik project of the 1970s, when Western craft practices and traditional Indigenous imagery were combined for the first time. Glory travelled throughout Australia in the 1980s to exhibit a collection of Utopian batiks. In 1994 she travelled to Indonesia to learn more about batik. The majority of Glory’s works depict bush tucker or awelye, the ceremonial designs women paint on their bodies during their traditional ceremonies.
