Rohan Wealleans was born in Invercargill, New Zealand in 1977. He graduated from the University of Auckland Elam School of Fine Art with a Bachelor Fine Arts (Painting) in 2000, and in 2003 was awarded a Master of Fine Arts. The same year he won the Trust Waikato Art Award and in 2006 won the 15th Annual Wallace Art Award in Auckland. Using a variety of media, including oil, house paint, polystyrene, wood and paper his works morph into something between paintings and sculpture. Since 2001, Wealleans has exhibited regularly both in New Zealand and internationally. Wealleans' work is in the collections of the Auckland Art Gallery, Te Papa Tongarewa The Museum of New Zealand, Wellington, The Govett-Brewster Gallery, New Plymouth and the Chartwell Collection as well as private collections in Australia and New Zealand. In 2020 he opened a gallery and studio in new Plymouth, south of Auckland, where he lives and works.
