Born in England about 1806, William McCleverty arrived in New Zealand in 1846. In 1894 he was appointed commander of New Zealand forces. During his time in New Zealand he painted numerous topographical works, usually in watercolours. He left New Zealand in 1857 and died in 1897.
Since 1970 we have recorded only one work being sold at auction by this artist, which was in 1997.
