Jun Chen was born in Guangzhou, China, in 1960. He studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in China in 1986 and was awarded a Bachelor of Arts. He emigrated to Australia in 1990 and undertook further study at the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane in 1996 where he was awarded a Master of Fine Arts (Visual Arts). He has been a regular exhibitor and finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales' Archibald Prize, the Wynne Prize and Sulman Prize. A landscape artist and portraitist, working in oil on canvas, his first solo exhibition was in Brisbane in 1997 and since then he has exhibited in both solo and group shows in Sydney, Brisbane and China. In 2011 he was the winner of the Peoples’ Choice Award at the Fleurieu Art Prize, South Australia and in 2013 the winner of the 2013 Tattersall’s Club Landscape Art Prize in Brisbane. Jun Chen currently lives and works in Brisbane.
