Born in England in 1913, Tom Green arrived in New Zealand in 1923 and studied at the Canterbury College of Art and Wellinton Technical Art School. After arriving in Australia in 1948 he studied at the Julian Ashton School and taught at the National Art School. A painter and graphic artist, he held joint exhibitions in Sydney with his wife, artist Jean Appleton, and solo exhibitons from 1963 to 1978..

The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,265 for Abstract sold by GFL Fine Art in March 2020.
