Born in Sydney in 1917, Gwen Pratt studied under J.S. Watkins and later at the Julian Ashton School. She also studied at the Royal Art Society of NSW where she later became a fellow, and where she exhibited her work. She was a multiple finalist in Australia's most prestigious art prize, The Archibald and was also one of the first female artists to be accepted into Australia's Royal Art Society. Her work is exhibited in Australia's National Portrait Gallery.
