Born in Lilydale, Victoria in 1927, Whisson studied at Swinburne Technical College and undertook study tours to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East between 1954 and 1978. He held his first solo exhibition in Melbourne in 1952 and exhibited widely in the Eastern states of Australia. He exhbited in group shows throughout Australia and in Venice, Japan and New York. He died aged 94 at his home in Sydney on 25 February 2022.
