Born in South Australia in 1914, Tuck studied at the South Australian School of Arts with Ivor Hele and Dorrit Black. She held overt 32 solo exhibitions from 1947, mostly in Adelaide but also in Perth and Germany. She was also a noted teacher, stage designer and art critic. Her work was included in South Australian Women Artists exhibition in 1994 and she was awarded the Order of Australia in 1981 for service to art. Her legacy continues through the South Australian Youth Arts Board's annual $12,500 Ruth Tuck Scholarship.
