Born in 1922, Angus O’Callaghan commenced his career as a photographer during World War II. After the war, Angus worked as a as a school teacher, continuing his hobby of photography in his own time in the late 1960s and early 1970s capturing every day scenes of life in Melbourne during that time. He never commercialised his work storing his images at home, until they were finally "discovered" in Melbourne at a Brighton Primary School art fair fundraiser in 2008. Prints were made from some of the negatives and they were first offered for sale by Leonard Joel Auctions in Melbourne in 2012. As well, his work has since been published in a book, Angus O’Callaghan’s Melbourne as he enjoys a late found career as an artist.
