Born in London in 1889, Fred Britton studied at the Slade School where he won a scholarship for two years. He arrived in Adelaide in 1910, aged 21 and became a teacher at the South Australian School of Arts & Crafts.. Painter and etcher. In World War II he served with the AIF and then returned to Adelaide to become the first principal of the Adelaide School of Arts. He later moved to Sydney where he taught at the East Sydney Technical College.
