Amalie Sara Colquhoun nee Field was born in Victoria in 1894. A painter and teacher, she studied drawing and design at the Ballarat Technical Art School, becoming the Art Mistress there in the mid-1920s. And continued her studies at Sydney Technical College, then in Melbourne under Max Meldrum. She married Archibald Douglas Colquhoun before going to Europe for further studies. She and her husband conducted an art school in Melbourne in the late 1920s.
