Born in Liverpool, England in 1864, Wadham studied in England and had his first picture accepted for exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool, at the of age 14, before coming to Australia in 1885. He was a prominent figure in the Adelaide art scene in the late 1800s, joining the South Australian Society of Arts, and in 1892 and was Foundation President of the Adelaide Easel Club in 1895. Mainly a landscape painter in watercolour, he lived in New Zealand, Tasmania and mainland Australia. In the early 1920s Wadham opened the Wadham Art Gallery in Sydney, which carried works by a large number of artists. He returned to live in England in 1923.
