Born in Italy in 1920, Leopoldine Mimovich studied at the Vienna School of Wood Sculpture in Austria and arrived in Australia in 1949. A wood sculptor, painter and etcher, she has received numerous commissions for religious sculptures around Australia, New Guinea, London and New York. Mimovich was awarded an OAM for services to the arts in 1985. Her work is represented in the United Nations Building, New York and various institutional collections around the world.
