Born in South Australia in 1882, Jago studied at Davis Studio, Melbourne and at the Julian Ashton School in Sydney. He moved to Perth in the early 1900s and worked with the State public service until his retirement in 1945. In Perth he exhibited in the inaugural Perth Society of Artists exhibition in 1933. Jago moved to Sydney in the late 1940s and exhibited with the Royal Art Society was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Sulman Prize in 1948 and in 1950 and a finalist for the 1950 Wynne Prize..
