Born in Hamburg, Germany in 1950, painter Alex Spremberg studied fine art at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg from 1972-78 and moved to Perth in 1982. He lectured in various universities and art schools for over 20 years and in 2017 he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy from Curtin University. He has maintained a regular exhibition schedule, holding 20 solo shows between 1989 and 2018 in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney and participated in numerous group shows over that period. Grants, awards and residencies include a New Work Grant from the Australia Council for the Arts in 2000 and 2004, the Bankwest Contemporary Art Prize in 2004 and in 2006 the International Artists Exchange Program in Basel, Switzerland.
We have records of art auction sales by Alexander Spremberg from 2012 and in total 11 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 10 (91%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $2,300 for Slope sold by GFL Fine Art in November 2013. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023.
