Born in Sydney in 1915, Lionel Taprell served with the AIF mobile map-making unit in New Guinea during World War II. He later became a printmaker at Hollander & Govett in Edgecliff, Sydney. H&G was a printing firm which specialized in 24 sheet posters. This was in the days of hand lithography, a very complicated method of preparing the zinc plates for the offset printing presses. He also taught art privately. His work is of a traditional style in both oils and watercolours.
