Born in Scotland in 1858, Tom Humphrey came to Australia in 1869. he studied at the National Gallery Art School and painted impressionist landscapes with artists of the Heidelberg School. He exhibited with the Victorian academy of the Arts in 1885 and the Victorian Artists Society from 1888 until 1913. He died in 1922 and the The Fine Arts Society held an exhibition of his works in 1925, and a commemorative exhibition was held at the Warnambool Art Gallery in 1979.
