Dixon Copes (full name: Noel Thomas Dickson Copes) was born in New South Wales on 25 December 1914. As Noel Copes he attended Newington College commencing in 1930. After leaving school he studied at the Royal Art Society in Sydney. Much of his study was under Sydney Long, whose influence shows in Copes' work. He has attempted to portray a wide range of Australian subjects. Many of his pictures are hanging in Australian embassies throughout the world.
