Sculptor and environmental artist Virginia King was born in Christchurch in 1946. In the the early 1980s she he studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland and the Chelsea Art School, London where she developher her interest in sculpture. Much of her work involves commisions for worls in public spaces in New Zealand and elsewhere, including Canberra, Melbourne, New Caledonia, Hawaii and Singapore. In 1999 King was awarded an Antarctic Artist Fellowship and in 2019 she was honoured to be invited by the European Cultural Centre to exhibit at Palazzo Bembo during Venice Biennale.
The total number of works by Virginia King offered for sale by auction since 2006 is 30, of which 17 (57%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $27,560 for Piha Leaf sold by Art+Object in May 2023. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Virginia King are held by the Queensland Art Gallery.
