About Robert Askew Gill
Born in the United Kingdom in 1838, Robert Gill arrived in New Zealand in 1877 and opened a drapery shop in Christchurch. His oil paintings, watercolours and drawings were exhibited with the Canterbury Society of Arts from 1887 and with the NZ Academy of Fine Arts in Wellington from 1889.
