About Winifred Mary Towers
Born in Portsmouth, England in 1890, Winifred Towers studied at the Portsmouth School of Art. A painter and illustrator, she is believed to have arrived in Australia in the 1930s. She moved to Brisbane in 1940 and became a member of the Half Dozen Group. She was included in major national art surveys such as the Commonwealth Jubilee Celebration Exhibition of Queensland Art and the Fellowship of Australian Artists in 1951.
