Born in 1879, Eirene Mort studied under Dattilo Rubbo in Sydney and in London. On her return to Sydney in 1905, she became a teacher and shared studios with other artists who went into business as interior decorators. Also an etcher and printmaker, she was a foundation member of the Australian Painters & Etchers Society and the Society of Arts and Crafts, NSW. Mort was also principal of the Sydney Women Painters' Art School, and taught etching to Sydney Ure Smith.
