About Douglas Stubbs
Born in Leongatha, Victoria in 1927, Stubbs studied at the National Gallery School, Melbourne. Best known for his colourful surrealist paintings, frequently of birds, he first exhibited in the Herald Outdoor Art exhibitions held in Melbourne, and then held the first of several exhibitions in Melbourne in 1964.
We have records of art auction sales by Douglas Stubbs from 1969 and in total 232 works by the artist have been offered for sale, of which 158 (68%) were sold. The highest price recorded for the artist is $1,680 for Eventide 1973 sold by Leonard Joel in December 2009. No works have been offered for sale this year, and the last sale we have recorded for the artist was in 2023. Works by Douglas Stubbs are held by the Heide Museum of Modern Art.
